What Does it Mean to Live a Good Life?

There probably isn't one perfect answer.

A good life looks different for each of us—and it changes as we grow. But there are parts of life that seem to matter deeply: knowing our worth, continuing to grow, caring for ourselves, discovering what brings us alive, connecting with others, and contributing to something beyond ourselves.

The Good Life Classroom is a place to explore those things together.

The Landscape of a Good Life

We think of The Good Life as a journey through a landscape of six important areas.

ENOUGHNESS

Recognizing our inherent worth and learning that we don’t have to earn our value.

Continuing to learn, change, become, and discover what’s possible.

HEALTH

Caring for our emotional, mental, physical, and whole selves.

CONNECTION

Building relationships, belonging to communities, and sharing life with others.

GIVING

Using who we are and what we have to contribute to the lives of others.

These areas don’t exist in isolation. Together, they form the landscape through which each of us can travel towards living a good life.

A Compass for the Journey

A compass doesn’t tell us exactly where to go.

It helps us notice where we are - and choose where we might want to head next.

The Good Life Compass works the same way!

Its six points represent the six areas of a good life. We can use it to pause, look at the landscape, of our lives and ask:

Where am I thriving? Where might I need some attention? What direction would I like to explore next?

The goal isn’t perfect balance. And it isn’t to judge or score ourselves.

The compass simply helps us pay attention and choose a direction.

We’re Just Getting Started!

The Good Life Classroom is growing.

Soon, you’ll be able to explore each point of the compass more deeply through stories, reflections, activities, videos, conversations, and practical resources for individuals, families, classrooms, and communities.
